Song: That's The Way Love Goes by Janet Jackson
Time: 11:22 a.m.
Hi friends!
I hope and pray you are doing well!
Let's talk about passion and desire.
One day, I talked to one of my good friends about my books, and she said, “When I got to Savior Book 3, you had me blushing.”
I smiled and said, “Why? Because of the sex scenes between Joshua and Kerrington?”
She said, “Yes.”
I chuckled and said, “We, as Christians, shouldn’t be afraid to discuss sex. God created sex to be enjoyed in marriage, and it is something that needs to be discussed among Christians and taught in the church in the right way.”
Our conversation prompted me to write this email.
As a Christian and romance writer, I know there is a stigma associated with that, but I believe God has a purpose for me writing these romance books.
In today’s society, people shamelessly talk about sex in the wrong way, and I write romance books because I want the world to see how godly relationships should function and how God created sex to be enjoyed by a husband and wife in marriage. I want the world to see how romance, passion, sex, and desire are so amazing when done God’s way!
Now, let me clarify: I don’t believe in sex outside of marriage. But in marriage, sex is beautiful and should be enjoyed. God gave sex as a gift to married couples for pleasure and procreation.
After all, God is the original romance writer, and the Bible is filled with wonderful romance stories.
One of those books is the Song of Solomon.
In the Song of Solomon, God perfectly discusses love, marriage, and sex.
This book is a beautiful love story about Solomon, who falls in love with a young woman.
Solomon wrote this book, and many believe it’s about his relationship with the Shulammite woman.
The first part of the book discusses the couple’s courtship.
The woman is described as having great character, a hard worker, and serving others. Solomon was proud of her and protected her. She respected Solomon as well. I love how the couple respected and trusted each other. These are characteristics we should look for or have in a spouse.
After their courtship, the couple gets married and consummate their marriage.
As they become one, Solomon is patient and loving. He tells his wife how beautiful she is and what she means to him as they share passion and make love.
This shows that sex with your spouse is a beautiful and godly thing. Sexual Intimacy is an important part of marriage.
In this book, God goes into great detail regarding their physical desire for each other. He doesn’t hold anything back. Sex between the couple is described explicitly in a poetic nature.
Here are some quotes from the Song of Solomon:
Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread everywhere. Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choice fruits.”
-Song of Songs 4:16
“Your breasts like clusters of fruit. I said, “I will climb the palm tree and take hold of its fruit.” May your breasts be like clusters of grapes on the vine. May the wine go straight to my beloved, flowing gently over lips and teeth.” -Song of Songs 7:7-9
“I belong to my beloved, and his desire is for me.” -Song of Songs 7:10
It’s pretty steamy, right?
Through Song of Solomon, we get God’s perspective on a couple’s relationship, from courtship to marriage to sex, conflict, and reconciliation.
The book isn’t just about sex. This couple’s relationship is endearing. They love each other, but they also have their disagreements.
Later in the book, the couple has a disagreement, and the wife is scared of losing her husband. She locks him out of their room, and then he leaves. She goes out to find him. Then, they eventually reconcile.
I love how the woman’s friends are included in the story, and they witness and rejoice in their friend’s relationship with her husband.
She can share things about her relationship with her friends because she trusts them. They are a safety net for her. They give her wise and sound advice when she needs it. She’s not isolated. She has a community supporting her in her relationship, and that’s important for all of us in relationships. We want to have wise counsel around us.
Good and trustworthy friends are important. In these friendships, you can be honest with each other without it going anywhere.
I love how the woman and her friends were honest with each other. They helped her in her relationship, and she wanted them not to awaken love before it’s time, showing women that it is unwise to pursue a sexual relationship without being married.
In this book, I love how the wife freely expresses her desire for her husband without shame, and he does the same. I love that there is mutual love and passion between the couple and that they want to be together.
In essence, my friends, I love that God included the Song of Solomon in the Bible. This book is a joyous celebration of love, passion, desire, and sex, and its love story has deepened my love for writing romance books!
